Nando’s, Limerick, Ireland

When Dean Concannon and Annita Liasi first started brainstorming the design direction of this new Nando’s restaurant in Limerick, Ireland, they looked at the materiality of the space and the different textures we could introduce. Through using various materials including, different styles of bricks, 3D tiles, concrete walls, and textured fabrics we added another dimension to this unique space.

Harrison’s aim was to create an impressive ceiling feature that would be visible from all levels, so we collaborated with Ashanti Design, local manufacturer in South Africa to create numerous bespoke light pendants to cover the entire ceiling. Here was a great opportunity to create a contrast in colours, textures and introduce vibrant, bright colours for the pendants that generated plenty of light and positive energy to the space and creating a real WOW as guests entered the restaurant.

DID YOU KNOW? There are in fact 32 different sized pendants used in this restaurant, with the heaviest weighing about 20kg. In fact, 585kg of upcycled cotton was used to create these lights were the upcycled cotton was weaved around the frame creating the desirable pattern materials using reclaimed materials from fabric houses in South Africa, that would otherwise end up in landfill.
