Alban’s Well

The client brief was to transform a long, narrow, characterless concrete box, into a warm and welcoming space for local residents, shoppers and families. The design was inspired by local history and architecture, focusing on the historic Cathedral, a local artist and painter Edward Robert Hughes and Stephen William Hawking who lived in St Albans for many years.

A mystical artwork shadow was painted over concrete in the style of the local artist, Edward Robert Hughes. Our moss green wall was designed to soften the environment and help the space breath bring the outside in, depicting the surrounding Hertfordshire undulating countryside. Conscious consumption was also an important factor we used reclaimed furniture adding character and prevented furniture from going to landfill.
