Set within Hamad International Airport, Harrods’ Tea Rooms offers travellers a moment of pause, and a quiet expression of British elegance, reimagined for an international audience. Harrison was tasked with translating the enduring refinement of Harrods Knightsbridge into a contemporary airport setting.
A unique piece of history

The story of Harrods’ Tea Rooms begins in 1911, when they opened as London’s largest restaurant to mark the coronation of King George V. From grand tea dances to high society gatherings, they became a symbol of ceremony and sophistication evolving over time while retaining their cultural significance as the home of the quintessential afternoon tea.

Inspired by the elegance of Harrods

Rather than replicate history, our design vision distilled it by balancing tradition with modernity to create a space that feels timeless, composed, and unmistakably Harrods. Subtle Art Deco references, bespoke detailing, and a restrained, muted palette work together to evoke understated luxury, sitting seamlessly alongside the adjoining Harrods retail experience.

A classic ritual

Working closely with the Knightsbridge team, we developed a modern interpretation of this classic ritual. Guests are invited to enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and a seasonally changing patisserie selection, paired with speciality teas or sparkling wine, an unique English experience that feels both familiar and finely tuned.

Delivered with precision by our local project team, the design remains faithful to Harrods’ exacting standards, while subtly responding to its Doha context. The result is an elegant interlude where heritage travels well, and tradition finds new meaning in motion.
