In the heart of Clapham Common, The Windmill is a local landmark, it's not simply a classic Victorian London pub, but a unique destination that has been shaped by history, architecture, and the everyday rituals of its local community.

A Victorian Landmark Reimagined

Our vision was to honour the building’s Victorian character while reimagining it for modern hospitality. Inspired by local heritage and the generosity of the original architecture, the design brings the outside in, celebrating natural light, height, and structure. The conservatory became a guiding influence, its daylight amplified through layered planting and refined detailing to create a sense of openness and ease.

Architectural Drama

Each space was allowed to find its own identity. The Lounge, naturally darker and more enclosed, was transformed into an intimate retreat rich in tone, texture, and comfort, with velvet drapery, deep colours, and a quietly luxurious mood. In contrast, the dramatic Dome was elevated as a centrepiece. Its height is embraced through a striking chandelier and bespoke backlit feature, with symmetrical dining seating drawing people together beneath the architecture.

Layered Zones

The Conservatory softens the journey with lush green walls, generous planting, and sculptural lighting creating a gentle connection between inside and out. Beyond, the external areas unfold in layers: relaxed drinking spaces, more formal dining zones, and the playful energy of the outside Burger Shack expressed through bold colour, artwork, and light.

Results That Reflect Our Vision

The result is a place that feels familiar yet renewed. A classic pub shaped by its past, designed for the present, and built to serve its community. Overall occupancy rose by 22% following refurbishment factual proof that when storytelling, design and a clear vision align, both people and business performance deliver.
